Grid-scale batteries built from iron and air, storing renewable power for days rather than hours.
Wind and solar are now the cheapest power ever built, but they don't run on demand. Tessel's iron-air cells store that power for up to a hundred hours, at a fraction of the cost of lithium, from materials that are abundant everywhere.
We led Tessel's seed round when it was three engineers and a bench prototype. Today its first 20 MW system is running beside a Danish wind farm, and two more are under construction.
